Victor, from Argentina, is an accomplished international cardiologist and business entrepreneur. Driven by his passion for learning, he has enrolled in the Online Professional English Class at MLC this year, all while actively pursuing a master’s degree in finance.
As a renowned cardiologist, he has many opportunities to attend international conferences in Argentina. In addition to his medical pursuits, his business ventures also demand proficiency in English. “The official language at conferences is English, even in the heart of Europe,” Victor notes. “For my business, we also use English for negotiations and crucial business meetings. It is very important that you learn English, and it’s imperative to master it.”
His introduction to MLC came through his daughter-in-law, Dana, who had previously been a student at MLC and resides in Ann Arbor with Victor’s son. “I was motivated to enhance my English, but it extended beyond language fluency,” he explained. “It is essential for me to communicate effectively, comprehend others, and present my business proficiently.”
Through the Professional English class at MLC, Victor has encountered a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of cross-cultural communication, and appreciates the value of the cultural insights shared by his instructor, Alexandra. “The cultural map that Alexandra introduced was very helpful. Also I enjoy learning from my classmates from diverse backgrounds and professions,” he said.
One of the remarkable aspects of Victor’s story is his unrelenting passion for learning. Despite his great success as a cardiologist and entrepreneur, he remains steadfast in his commitment to personal growth. “In my view, mastering English is a necessity that shouldn’t be postponed. Sometimes, we realize the importance of learning something when it’s too late. I may be in my 60s, but my learning process never ends.”
Now Victor is looking forward to visiting his son and daughter-in-law in Ann Arbor this upcoming winter. He said, “When I will be in Ann Arbor, I plan to visit MLC as well. I am looking forward to meeting with Alexandra and other students in person!”
